goAML Registration
We register your business on the UAEFIU goAML portal: account setup, company details, compliance officer nomination and document uploads, all checked before submission.
Stay on the right side of the UAE's AML law
If you are an accountant, auditor, precious-metals dealer or real-estate broker in the UAE, AML compliance is not optional. Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2018 puts your business in a category called DNFBPs, and that comes with real duties: register on the goAML portal, appoint an AML compliance officer, screen your clients, and report anything suspicious. Miss any of it and the fines can run into hundreds of thousands of dirhams. We handle the whole thing for you: registration, policies, training and the ongoing reporting calendar, so compliance becomes a quiet background process instead of a looming risk.
What is included
Everything a DNFBP needs to satisfy the UAE's AML rules, in one engagement.
We register your business on the UAEFIU goAML portal: account setup, company details, compliance officer nomination and document uploads, all checked before submission.
A written risk assessment for your business: client types, products, delivery channels and geographies, scored and documented the way inspectors expect to see it.
We act as your outsourced AML support: screening workflows, record-keeping systems and a named point of contact for anything the regulator asks.
Customer due diligence procedures written for your business: what to collect, when to verify, and how to handle high-risk clients and politically exposed persons.
We set up your internal reporting chain and prepare suspicious transaction reports for the UAEFIU, so nothing gets missed or filed late.
Annual reviews, refresher training and filing reminders, all tracked. Your compliance stays current while you run the business.
Who the law covers
The UAE's anti-money-laundering framework centres on Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2018. It divides the private sector into financial institutions, which answer to the Central Bank, and DNFBPs: designated non-financial businesses and professions. If your business sits in the second group, you register with the Ministry of Economy's AML framework, get yourself on the goAML portal, and follow the compliance rulebook. There is no exemption for being small, new, or a free zone company.
The categories most of our clients fall into are below. If your trade license includes any of these activities, assume the duties apply to you until someone qualified tells you otherwise. And if you are unsure, the safe move is to check: the cost of a compliance review is trivial next to the cost of a fine.
The portal that matters
goAML is the online portal of the UAE Financial Intelligence Unit (UAEFIU). Every DNFBP must register on it: this is how the regulator knows you exist, and it is the channel through which suspicious transaction reports are filed. Registration itself is free on the portal, but the application is unforgiving. Company details must match your trade license character for character, the nominated compliance officer's details must match their Emirates ID, and every uploaded document must be current.
The typical flow runs like this: create the entity account, enter company and ownership details, nominate the compliance officer, upload the document pack (trade license, memorandum of association, passports and Emirates IDs, office proof), and submit. Approval usually follows within days to a couple of weeks if everything is clean. Rejections almost always come down to mismatches or expired documents, and each rejection restarts the clock. Our goAML registration service handles the full submission and any refiling, so you get it right the first time.
What is at stake
The UAE enforces AML through administrative fines set out under Cabinet Resolution No. 10 of 2019, and the amounts are designed to hurt. Operating as a DNFBP without goAML registration, failing to appoint a compliance officer, skipping customer due diligence, or not reporting a suspicious transaction can each draw a separate fine. Individual penalties can run into the hundreds of thousands of dirhams, and they stack: one inspection can surface several violations at once.
Beyond the money, there is the license risk. Regulators can suspend activity until violations are fixed, and a public enforcement action does quiet damage to client trust that no fine captures. The pattern we see is consistent: businesses that register and set up basic procedures early never think about AML again, while businesses that wait end up paying for the same compliance work plus the fine. If penalties are already on your mind, our corporate tax compliance team can also review your wider FTA position, since inspections rarely look at just one thing.
A typical goAML registration plus first-year compliance setup costs a fraction of a single administrative fine. We will quote one fixed fee after a free 20-minute review of your license activities: no hourly billing, no surprises. If you also need your UBO registration tidied up, we can bundle it in the same engagement.

AML compliance FAQs
Yes. The law looks at what you do, not how big you are. If you provide accounting, audit or bookkeeping services in the UAE, you fall into the DNFBP category under Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2018, and the duties apply to a two-person practice the same way they apply to a Big Four office. There is no small-firm exemption. The good news: a small firm's compliance setup is simpler and cheaper, and we keep it proportionate to your size.
You are exposed to administrative fines, and they are not symbolic. Operating as a DNFBP without registering on the goAML portal, failing to appoint a compliance officer, or neglecting client screening can each attract penalties that run into the hundreds of thousands of dirhams, depending on the violation and the regulator's assessment. In serious or repeated cases, your trade license itself can be at risk. Registration costs a fraction of a single fine, which is why almost every firm we speak to wishes it had done this sooner.
More routine work than the title suggests. The officer screens new clients before onboarding, keeps the client files and transaction records the law requires, watches for red flags, files suspicious transaction reports with the UAEFIU when something does not add up, and makes sure staff get their refresher training. For most SMEs this is a few hours a month once the system is set up. We act as outsourced AML support for firms that do not want to hire for the role.
With clean documents, typically a few working days to two weeks from submission to approval. Most delays come from paperwork problems: a trade name that does not match the license exactly, an expired Emirates ID uploaded by mistake, or the wrong activity selected. We check everything before we submit, which is why our registrations rarely bounce. If your application was already rejected, we can usually diagnose the reason and refile within days. Our goAML registration service covers the full process.
Yes. Real estate agents and brokers are explicitly listed as DNFBPs, and the regulators watch this sector closely because property is a classic channel for moving illicit funds. If your agency handles sales, leasing or property management, you need goAML registration, client screening procedures and a trained compliance officer just like an accounting firm does. The same applies to dealers in precious metals and stones.
