Eligibility and document check
We verify your threshold position and assemble the pack: trade license, owner IDs, bank details, turnover evidence, MOA, and customs code if you import. Nothing gets filed half-ready.
TRN issued, filings handled, penalties avoided
VAT registration in the UAE looks like a simple online form until the FTA asks for one more document, then another. BizNex Consulting handles the full VAT registration: eligibility check, document pack, EmaraTax filing and TRN follow-up, usually within 7 working days. We also keep you compliant after the TRN lands, with returns, records and deregistration when the time comes.
Thresholds first
Registration is mandatory when your taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 in the previous 12 months, or you expect to exceed it in the next 30 days. Cross that line and a 30-day clock starts: register inside it or face the penalty. What counts is taxable supplies at 5% plus imports. Exempt supplies and out-of-scope items do not count, which is where many businesses miscalculate in both directions.
Voluntary registration opens at AED 187,500. Below the mandatory line you can still register to reclaim input VAT on your purchases, and many B2B suppliers do exactly that because large clients prefer dealing with VAT-registered vendors. The right call depends on your margins, your customer mix and how fast you are growing toward the mandatory line anyway.
The 30-day clock is the part that catches people. It starts when you cross the threshold, not when you notice you crossed it. Businesses with lumpy revenue, a big new contract or a sudden import order can cross without realising. Our eligibility check reconstructs your last 12 months properly, so you know exactly where you stand before the FTA tells you.
Fees
The first thing most businesses ask is what VAT registration costs in the UAE. Here is the honest answer: there is no public price list for this work, because every application is different. Some need a simple threshold check and a clean filing. Others need turnover reconstruction, a voluntary disclosure or a messy document history sorted out first. What we can promise is a fixed fee, quoted in writing before anything is filed, so you know the exact number before you commit.
The fixed fee covers the eligibility and threshold check, the full document pack, the EmaraTax filing through our FTA-registered partner firms, FTA clarification responses, TRN follow-up, and the post-TRN setup: invoicing rules, your return calendar and five-year record-keeping. No hourly billing, no surprise extras after you sign. Registration is one part of our full VAT services in Dubai: workings, filing and advisory that keep running after the TRN is live.
And if the eligibility check shows you do not need to register, we tell you that instead of selling you a registration. A threshold check that comes back clean is the cheapest outcome there is.
Penalties
The administrative penalty for late VAT registration is AED 10,000, applied per registration. That is only the start. Late filing of VAT returns carries its own penalties, late payment carries more, and incorrect returns can trigger reassessments. A business that registered six months late and filed nothing can be looking at multiples of the original fine.
If you already missed the deadline, do not wait for the FTA to find you. A voluntary disclosure lets you come forward, register and settle what is owed, which consistently produces a better outcome than being caught. We prepare disclosures that present your position clearly and completely, because a sloppy disclosure invites the deeper review you are trying to avoid.
How it works
We verify your threshold position and assemble the pack: trade license, owner IDs, bank details, turnover evidence, MOA, and customs code if you import. Nothing gets filed half-ready.
The application goes in through EmaraTax with every supporting document attached and the effective date set correctly, so there is no gap for penalties to grow in. The filing itself is submitted through our FTA-registered partner firms, as tax-agent filings must.
When the FTA asks for clarifications, and it often does, we answer in their language with the right evidence. This is the step where DIY applications lose weeks.
TRN in hand, usually within 7 working days of a complete filing. We set up your invoicing, return calendar and record-keeping so compliance runs from day one.
Voluntary vs mandatory
Mandatory registration is not a choice. Cross AED 375,000 and you have 30 days. The only decisions left are getting the effective date right and filing cleanly.
Voluntary registration at AED 187,500+ makes sense when you carry significant input VAT on rent, stock or equipment, when your clients are mostly VAT-registered businesses, or when you are clearly heading for the mandatory line within the year. It costs you quarterly returns and proper records; it buys you input VAT recovery and commercial credibility.
Staying unregistered is fine when you are genuinely below both thresholds and your customers are end consumers. We tell clients this plainly when it is true, because registering a business that gains nothing from it just adds compliance cost.
Deregistration
Deregistration applies when your taxable turnover stays below the voluntary threshold for 12 months, when the business closes or is sold, or when you stop making taxable supplies. You must apply within 20 business days of becoming eligible, clear any outstanding returns and VAT payable, and keep records for five years after deregistration. Companies that simply stop filing instead of deregistering keep collecting penalties. We handle the exit as carefully as the entry.
Leaving a TRN active past its time is its own penalty. A late deregistration application costs AED 1,000 for every month it is late, capped at AED 10,000, and while the TRN stays live your quarterly returns stay due too, nil or not. We run a rolling 12-month turnover check with every return we file, so you know the moment you qualify to deregister and the exit lands inside the 20-day window.
Why BizNex
We reconstruct your 12-month position from real figures before anyone files anything, so you register exactly when the law requires it.
Complete document packs mean no clarification loops. Most of our TRNs land within 7 working days.
When the FTA pushes back, we respond with the evidence they actually want, in the format they expect.
A wrong effective date creates a gap where penalties grow. We set it from your real crossing date.
Returns, invoicing rules and five-year records handled from day one, so the TRN never becomes a liability.
When you qualify to exit, we close the TRN properly instead of letting silent penalties pile up.

VAT registration FAQs
A fixed professional fee, quoted in writing before anything is filed. The fee covers the eligibility and threshold check, the full document pack, the EmaraTax filing, FTA query handling and TRN follow-up, plus your post-TRN compliance setup. If the check shows you do not need to register, there is nothing to pay for registration, because we do not sell it.
With a complete document pack, the FTA usually issues the TRN within 7 working days of submission. Applications stall when the FTA asks for clarifications, which is the most common delay for DIY filings. We prepare the full pack upfront and answer any FTA queries, so most of our clients see their TRN inside a week.
AED 375,000 of taxable supplies and imports over the previous 12 months (or expected in the next 30 days) makes registration mandatory. At AED 187,500 you may register voluntarily. Crossing the mandatory threshold starts a 30-day clock to register.
Typically: trade license, passport and Emirates ID of owners/partners, company bank details or bank letter, proof of turnover, memorandum of association, and a customs code if you import. Requirements vary slightly by legal form, which we confirm before filing.
AED 10,000. It applies per late registration and sits alongside separate penalties for late filing and late payment, so delays get expensive fast. If you already missed the deadline, a voluntary disclosure can limit the damage.
Yes, once you pass AED 187,500 in taxable supplies. Voluntary registration lets you reclaim input VAT on purchases and looks more credible to larger clients who prefer VAT-registered suppliers.
Yes, if it crosses the threshold. Free zone companies follow the same registration rules, with special treatment only for supplies inside designated zones. We check your zone status as part of the eligibility review.
You charge 5% VAT on taxable supplies, display the TRN on invoices, file VAT returns (usually quarterly), pay any VAT due, and keep records for five years. We handle the ongoing returns and record-keeping so the TRN never becomes a liability.
