Bookkeeping Services in Dubai: The Hiring Guide

Choosing from the many bookkeeping services in Dubai is one of those decisions that looks small and turns out to be big. The right service keeps your VAT filings clean, your corporate tax return painless and your cash position visible every single month. The wrong one leaves you reconstructing a year of chaos every March, usually at the worst possible price. This guide covers what a good service actually does, what it should cost in 2026, the questions that separate professionals from pretenders, the red flags that should send you walking, and whether you should hire in-house instead.

Looking for the service itself?

Our bookkeeping service in Dubai covers monthly reconciliations, VAT workings and management reports from AED 2,000 a month. This guide is about how to choose well, whoever you choose.

What good looks like

What a bookkeeping service should actually do

Bookkeeping is not data entry. Data entry is the smallest part. A real service owns your month-end: every transaction categorised, every account reconciled, and a set of numbers you can trust by a fixed date each month.

  • Monthly bank, credit card and cash reconciliations, with every difference investigated, not parked
  • Accounts receivable and payable tracked, with ageing reports so you know who owes you
  • VAT workings prepared and reconciled to the books, with FTA-ready records kept 7 years
  • Payroll support: WPS files, payslips, leave and gratuity accruals
  • Month-end close by an agreed date (the 10th is a good standard to demand)
  • Monthly P&L and balance sheet in plain language, not just a trial balance dump

If a proposal does not mention reconciliations and a close date, it is not a bookkeeping service. It is typing.

Pricing

What bookkeeping services in Dubai cost in 2026

For a typical SME, outsourced bookkeeping in Dubai runs from around AED 2,000 a month for a light workload to AED 5,000+ for higher volumes with payroll and reporting. Our own plans start at AED 2,000 a month. Anyone quoting a few hundred dirhams is selling data entry, not a service: at that price nobody is reconciling anything.

What moves the price: monthly transaction count (the biggest driver), number of bank accounts and entities, whether payroll is included, and how far behind the books are at handover. Backlog cleanup is usually quoted separately, and rightly so.

Your options

Bookkeeping services in Dubai: in-house, freelance or firm

1

In-House Bookkeeper

AED 8,000 to 15,000 a month plus visa, insurance and end-of-service. You get dedication and availability, but also turnover risk: when they resign, your finance knowledge walks out with them. Makes sense past 30+ staff or genuinely complex operations.

2

Freelance Bookkeeper

AED 2,000 to 4,000 a month. Cheaper and flexible, but you are buying one person's availability. Holidays, illness and busy seasons are your problem, and VAT or corporate tax filings often sit outside their scope. Ask who covers when they cannot.

3

Bookkeeping Firm

AED 2,000 to 5,000+ a month. A team, a process, and cover when someone is away. The good ones bundle VAT workings, payroll and reporting, which is where the value compounds. The risk is becoming a small fish: ask who your named contact is.

Our outsourced accounting page compares the firm route in detail, including the maths against hiring.

Interview them

9 questions to ask before you sign

  • Who exactly will do my books, and what happens when they are on leave?
  • What is your month-end close date, and what do I receive on it?
  • How do you handle VAT workings and filing? Is it included or extra?
  • What software do you work in, and do I keep full access to my own data?
  • How do you capture receipts and invoices from us?
  • What is your process when the bank does not reconcile?
  • Can I speak to two current clients of a similar size?
  • What does leaving look like? How do I get my data back?
  • What is fixed in the fee, and what triggers extra charges?

Any hesitation on questions 4, 7 or 8 tells you everything. Our how to choose an accountant guide goes deeper on vetting the senior layer too.

Walk away when

Red flags

  • No trade licence, or a licence that does not cover accounting activities
  • They will not give you direct access to your own accounting software
  • Pricing with no scope: “bookkeeping” with no mention of transactions, close date or reports
  • They file your VAT return but cannot show you the workings behind it
  • No contract, or a contract with no exit clause
  • Unreachable for weeks, then reappearing at filing deadlines

Trust is the product here. If diligence feels difficult before you pay them, imagine after.

Switching

How to switch providers without the pain

Switching mid-year is completely normal. The books do not care which month you change; they only care that someone competent is keeping them.

1

Secure Your Data First

Get full admin access to your accounting software and a complete export before you tell anyone you are leaving.

2

Overlap by One Month

Let the new service run parallel for one month-end. Two sets of eyes on one close catches migration errors.

3

Agree the Handover List

Open items, unreconciled differences, pending filings: written down, assigned, dated.

4

Set the New Rhythm

Close date, report format, receipt process: agreed in writing in week one, not discovered in month three.

Hiring FAQs

Bookkeeping questions, answered

How much does a bookkeeping service cost in Dubai?

Typically AED 2,000 to 5,000+ a month for an SME, driven by transaction volume, entities and whether payroll is included. Our plans start at AED 2,000 a month. Per-transaction or hourly billing exists but makes costs unpredictable; fixed monthly pricing is the standard to insist on. See our cost guide for detail.

What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting?

Bookkeeping records and reconciles what happened. Accounting interprets it: VAT and corporate tax filings, management reports, forecasts and advice. Most Dubai SMEs need both, which is why firms bundle them. Our bookkeeping vs accounting guide draws the line precisely.

Should I hire a bookkeeper in-house or outsource?

Outsource until the workload justifies a full-time salary: roughly 30+ staff or genuinely complex operations. An in-house hire costs AED 8,000 to 15,000 a month before visa and benefits, and brings turnover risk. A firm gives you a team and a process for less. Our hire an accountant page covers the middle path.

How do I check a bookkeeping firm is legitimate?

Ask for their UAE trade licence and confirm accounting is a listed activity. Check Google reviews for patterns, not just stars. Ask for two client references of a similar size, and read the contract for scope, close dates and exit terms before signing anything.

Can I switch bookkeeping providers in the middle of the year?

Yes, and it happens all the time. Secure your data and software access first, run one month in parallel, and agree a written handover list. A good incoming firm will manage the whole transition; if they will not, that tells you something too.

Do I still need an accountant if I have a bookkeeper?

Usually yes, for a different job. The bookkeeper keeps the records; the accountant (or your bookkeeping firm's senior layer) handles VAT and corporate tax filings, year-end and advice. Ask any provider where bookkeeping stops and accounting starts: the honest ones draw the line clearly. See our accounting services for the full function.
